Mental health when working in the creative industry

August 22, 2019 by Janice Simpson

It seems that mental health has become a topic that has attracted the attention of many people recently. In particular, for those who work in the creative field, the pressure to create breakthrough products greatly affects their psychology.

When faced with tons of pressure from life, it seems people want to spend more time with themselves. Worry, stress, depression, loneliness and isolation – we all have the risk of suffering from such mental problems. In particular, people working in the creative industry seem more likely to encounter mental problems. Not only because of the nature of work depends on inspiration and mental health, but also because of the pressure to be recognized – especially when there is no specific measure to assess the success of a work of art.

REMEMBER: YOU ARE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY YOUR THINKING
Like every other part of your body, your brain is a form of muscle. It works continuously to control our bodies and minds. Sometimes, under the influence of the external environment, our brains often produce ideas … weird. This is the time you should be careful!

Maybe, it is negative thinking like: you are not good enough or not beautiful enough, this time is not as good as the last work … When it is like that, please focus your attention on something else, for example, new ideas. Comparing yourself with others or yourself yesterday only makes your creative ability affected.

DON’T PLEASE AND SATISFIED OTHER PEOPLE
Agree that, when working in the creative field, creating trends and driving customers’ thinking is very important. It will help you to make customers feel satisfied as well as increase sales. But that doesn’t mean you need to please everyone in your daily life.

This is very tiring and a waste of time. If you do not like or disagree with a problem, boldly raise your opinion. Be honest. You may be easy to calculate but you should not easily compromise. Therefore, do not try to “fool me to lie”.

ATTRIBUTE EACH STAGE OF A PROCESS
Certainly those who work in the creative field desire to make impressive works. Those are the works that when viewed, people will feel impressed and inspired.

Making ideas, taking notes, illustrations, and failures too, are precious memories. Through it, you find the right path. And those moments will make you love your work more.

DON’T HESITATE IF YOU NEED HELP
Opening a request for help from colleagues seems to make many people feel shy, even losing face. But really, that’s not a serious problem.

The creative industry requires you to work with a lot of people. If compared to a network, you are just a tiny link. So, when you feel stuck or stuck, remember that around you there are many people who can help you.

FAILURE IS A FORM OF SUCCESS
The creative industry is very harsh. There, you will face endless challenges and failures. Do customers change the brief suddenly or make design mistakes?

You should keep yourself thinking: Each failure is an opportunity for you to do better. Through it, you will receive lessons from practical experience, sharpen skills and become persistent. Be grateful for failures, because if only successful, you will not know the value of the effort.
